❝@NationalAdjunct inspires a week of #adjunct actions across the nation

…this February. 2,606 have already registered their support of this authentically grassroots action at the #NAWD Facebook page, many leaving comments and stories. Others discuss and follow the topic on Twitter and elsewhere online. Adjuncts are vulnerable and know it: most actions will be symbolic and “non-actionable” under even the most draconian state labor codes. With an eye to concerns about “walkout” being interpreted as a strike action, adjunct/contingency faculty unions and organizations are planning their own supplementary “week of actions” (same week, different plans and planners) in addition to the single day of action on February 25, 2015. It’s a big country with many adjuncts. There is room for everybody from individual adjuncts wearing a big red A to regional and campus groups designing their own actions to nationals pulling out the stops. NME’s role will be more clearinghouse than organizer, welcoming and making space for all efforts. More plans are in the works elsewhere and will be posted when officially confirmed. If your group, chapter, or organization has plans, please send us details to post. Leave a message here in comments or on the National Mobilization for Equity Facebook page

National Mobilization for Equity (NME), a national coalition of unions and other organizations representing over seven million members, endorses a National Adjunct Action Week (NAAW), which will take place across the country February 23-27, 2015. NME strongly supports collective action throughout this week, which may take many forms. Adjuncts and their allies will develop varied strategies to end the abuse and exploitation of contingent academic labor in higher education. For one list of ideas on a range of possible actions and activities, click here. Other activities will be posted in coming months.

National Adjunct Walkout Day

The National Mobilization for Equity endorses the National AAdjunctWalkoutDay001djunct Walkout Day, scheduled for February 25, 2015, with the proviso that NME does not support, encourage or condone anyone violating state laws, e.g., the so-called Taylor Law in New York State. Please check your own state labor codes, which are public information and online. More NAWD information:

About @NatM4Equity

The National Mobilization for Equity is a coalition of organizations committed to alleviating the present staffing crisis in higher education: three-quarters of the teaching jobs in American colleges are held by underpaid, precarious and poorly-supported contingent faculty. Our long-term goal is to end contingency as the norm. The current untenable situation not only adversely affects all faculty members, both contingent and tenure-track, it also negatively impacts our profession, our students and the quality of their education.
